Nev’s Christmas Fell Race 19th December 1999Whilst the rest of the country was suffering severe weather conditions, Glossop was basking in clear blue skies after a hard frost. This made ideal conditions for the last race that most of us would run before the m**ll**nn**m. Even the bogs of Harrop Moss were solid. The race took a circular route from Old Glossop, up Lightside, across Harrop Moss and returning via Cock Hill. Andy Trigg won setting a new course record in the process. In the background several battles were being fought with a wide variety of ‘excuses’ being made for eventual defeat. Those overheard, include, Andy Bardsley ‘getting lost’, whilst Mathew (Bradley) Brown insisted the he ‘fell and cut his knee’. Hardly consistently with a hard fell running image, but convincing enough on the day. It was good to see new members Jackie Purvis and Gerry Moss out, the first of many more races hopefully.
Thanks to Nev for putting in all the hard work to organise the race, and to Martin Morrison for helping with the timing. Clare Baguley December 1999 [Top] |
