Charlesworth and Chisworth

Charlesworth  and Chisworth Challenge

3 mile Fell Race     8th July 2000

Counter in Club Championships

The winner of this three mile race was Paul Targett of Clayton-le-Moors, the North East Lancashire Club,  in 23 minutes 33 seconds,  half a minute ahead of Daniel Oldham, an unattached runner.   The going was softish and the times slowish but the atmosphere joyous.

The shock of the day must come from James Vincent who is not yet fourteen and yet left many experienced runners behind.   Finishing 22nd in 27 minutes is no mean achievement  to whizz round the skyline round Coombs Rocks from Charlesworth village playing fields.   Certainly the organiser Bill Deakin and Glossopdale Harrier Rob Poole were both impressed not to say shocked !!

The race was part of the Carnival and the fun atmosphere pervaded the runners,  with a smattering of novices and unattached having a go.   Thirteen Glossopdale Harriers turned out and Frank Fielding, the first vet over 40,  was their first home in fourth position overall.   Nuala Bardsley was the first lady finishing in sixteenth position, consolidating her recent good results.
