Hayfield May Queen 3 Miles 25th May 2000Hayfield Series Race No.3 There was another good turn out of Harriers for the third race in the Hayfield series. For the duration of the race thunderous rain which had fallen all afternoon cleared to blue skies. However, the course was left wet and muddy. The May Queen follows a short 3 mile route out of Hayfield. It winds around the base of Lantern Pike, turns sharply to ascend to the trig point (373m), then descends on track and grassy slopes back to the Scout hut in the village. In all there was little to separate all of the Harriers, with everyone arriving home within five minutes of each other. Andy Bardsley was first home, a good minute ahead of Tim and Bill C who had fought a particularly close battle, which Tim finally won on the final stretch of road. Bill B, tired and still hungry from his County Tops exploits, still managed to hold off Gerry to the line. I was pleased to knock two minutes off last year’s time to arrive as second woman home. Neil, Martin, Nev and Jackie arrived shortly after. Next race in the series is the Kinder Trog 25th June 2000.
