Ian Roberts Memorial Relay

Ian Roberts Memorial Relay Race   11th March 2000

Two teams of Harriers ventured over to Marsden for this popular event. The race mixes alternate fell and (particularly challenging) road legs in four mile circular routes around Marsden Cricket Club. The competition was tough, with clubs as far a field as Bradford and Sheffield taking part.

Both teams put in full effort to produce some good individual runs. Notably, Mathew (aka Bradley) ran an excellent road leg after a week of secret training (reportedly consisting largely of eating and drinking) in Barcelona.

The prize for the most lasting image of the event goes to the last minute flurry of clothing being shed by Shutt behind Bill’s car as Bradley was putting in a sprint for the final hand-over. After one and half hours to prepare for the moment, Shutt still managed to provide us with the biggest cliff-hanger of the day.

Thanks to Carl for organising us all.   It’d be great to do it again next year – perhaps with a full women’s team as well?
