Marsden to Edale, 3rd December 2000On this occasion I wasn't able to be on location for first hand coverage of the event, but several sources (some reliable, others not so) have provided details which are worthy of reporting. First to mention are the excellent runs put in by Christian Harrison and Rob E. to arrive as first Harriers home earning them the rightful status of the Harriers very own 'Iron Men' of the day. Andy arrived within four hours to complete a fine run, followed by Rob P. who looks to be entering a bit of a purple patch. The award for bravery - or fool hardiness - of the day must go to Nuala who managed to win first female prize whist nursing a cracked rib that she'd sustained after a fall a couple of weeks ago. She explained '...I couldn't balance very well as it hurt my rib when I moved my arms. This caused me to fall over a lot. So, to protect my rib, I had to aim to land on my face. Because of this I ended up with a lot of mud on my face and it made my mascara run - it was really embarrassing...'. This woman is a running animal!! Despite a dodgy knee John B complete his first Trog. Unfortunately Andy B wasn't so lucky and had to drop out due to cramp with several others at Seal Stones. Budding female Super Vet Beryl also ran the course for the first time with the ever reliable support of Bill and Buzz. They arrived home shortly after Anna who reported that she had a much more pleasurable time than last year and knocked minutes off her previous time. Finally I received alarming reports of continuous arguments in the Purvis/Moss camp that nearly descended into violence at the Snake Pass. Jackie said that she was dehydrated and on the edge of delirium, but anonymous sources said that it started earlier than this right at the start when Gerry 'farting around as usual' (sic) made them miss the start. Any more suggestions on a postcard please. Finally on behalf of everyone a big thank-you to Carl who worked tirelessly as back-up and ferried kit and water to everyone that needed it. We look forward to breaking in the new car next year.
